For To Us
Christmas is about Jesus and it is about us! Isaiah brings out this truth when He said in Isaiah 9:6, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
The emphasis is on the birth of Jesus and why He came to earth. Jesus was born for us! He came to earth for us! His death was for us! He cares about us! God loves us! David questioned why God cared so much for man when he asked in Psalm 8, “What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him.”
There is a Divine love for man that perplexes our imagination. We see the sin of others, we see the sin in our own lives, and we ask, How can God love us?” What is this relationship between Creator and creation? It’s a love affair that poets and song writers have been writing about for centuries.
You can define love however you want, but the bottom line is still; love gives, love cares, and love always sacrifices for the good of others. And thus the Bible would say in John 3:16, “God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son.”
Why would God create man in the first place? Love. Why would He send His Son to die for sinful man? Love. Why would God want our fellowship for all eternity? Love. We know that we are not worthy of such love. The song writer put it this way, “Nothing good have I done to deserve God’s only Son.” God looked “beyond our faults and saw our greatest need.” That need is cleansing, forgiveness, mercy, and hope.
Make this day much more than the exchanging of gifts and eating. Make room for what this day is all about. “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Before the eating and before the gifts, why not read in the presence of your loved ones, the Christmas Story from Luke 2:1-20. A BLESSED CHRISTMAS TO ALL.
PRAISE GOD - THREE BAPTIZED IN EGG HARBOR CHURCH
We rejoiced as two men and one eleven year old boy were immersed into Christ in November. One of the men was Catholic. He is now just a Christian.
